I just downloaded Online Video Converter, a Chrome extension that I think is going to come in handy. It converts formats to MP4 as well as to other formats. Sound can be extracted from video too. If you are using Chromebooks at your school, you might want to take a look at this as it seems to offer a lot of tools.
When you click Launch App from the Chrome Store you are taken to an online page where you can open a file from Google Drive, Dropbox, SkyDrive, or URL, and then convert it. Across the top of the screen are several choices to take you to other pages that allow you to do other tasks. These include:

- Audio Joiner
- Audio Converter
- Video Cutter
- Voice Recorder
- Audio Extractor
